interrupt (an event, activity, or process) by causing a disturbance or problem: a rail strike that could disrupt both passenger and freight service.

Silicon Valley Dictionary

disrupt |disˈrəpt| verb [ with obj. ]

create a service/product that is free and/or better than the current landscape to gain mass user adoption and loyalty. This is followed by selling the product to a larger entity who will neglect and eventually shut it down. Leaving dedicated users burned.
